Check Up: “Not A Fan”
It’s easy to be a fan. The biggest sacrifice you ever face is disappointment when the object of your enthusiasm let’s you done. Everything else – it’s pretty much discretionary.
Jesus isn’t looking for fans. Never has. Clicking “Like” on his Fabook wall just doesn’t do it.
Jesus wants people committed to following him. Committed even when it requires genuine sacrifice. Committed to becoming like him. Especially when the world will decided we are odd, weird, foolish, and wrong.
Last week we talked about “putting off” the old – sacrificing what we used to be like. The flip side is “putting on” the new – becoming like Jesus. Let’s see if we have what it takes.
Christmas Eve Service, 5:30p, December 24, 2011
This Series:

O holy night, it came upon a midnight clear, let the earth rejoice. Away in the manager, what child is this?
These snippets from favorite Christmas carols offer more than familiar warm fuzzies. They are more then just the sound track to the season.
Joins us during this Christmas as we look at the story of expectation, hope, and truth found in the scriptures behind our favorite carols.
Christmas Eve
We change things up for our Christmas Eve Gathering!
As you arrive at the River, you see the flickering of luminaries lining the drive. Beginning at 5:00p you’ll be greeted with the warmth of cookies, hot cocoa, friends, and family. At 5:30p we will gather for a special time of songs, scripture, and a few surprises, ending in a beautiful candlelight moment of worship.
You’ll want to make time for this wonderful time of celebration!

Christmas Day
We wrap up our “Carols” series, and Christmas Day marks the “end” of Advent, and the Christmas shopping season. But in reality, Christ’s birth was just the beginning of the rest of the Story!
This year, with Christmas Day falling on a Sunday, there’s no better way to rejoice in the birth of the Messiah than to gather in worship!

This Sunday:
From Alleluia:
The wise men in wonder by what they had seen
Divinely instructed and warned in a dreamed
Could not go back to the way things had been
It’s been 2000 years, but the the experience is the same as for the wise men. When we encounter the real Messiah, we can not go back to the way things have been. We are changed – for the better if we follow Him, for the worse if we turn away. But never again the same.
This Sunday, we find that the star still lights the way.
